UV-C lights for HVAC systems are one of those add-ons that get marketed with big, vague promises — “kills 99.9% of everything in your air.” The reality is more specific, and more honest: UV-C is genuinely useful for one particular job, and that job matters a lot in our humid climate. A UV-C light mounted at your evaporator coil suppresses the mold and biological growth that our Zone 4A humidity actively encourages on that cold, wet surface. That is a real benefit worth having. What UV-C is not is a whole-home air purifier that sterilizes the air passing by it. We install UV-C for what it actually does well, and we will tell you honestly where its limits are.

A UV-C coil light is installed inside the air handler, positioned to illuminate the coil surface, and wired to run continuously or whenever the system operates. The lamps have a service life — typically around a year or two depending on the type — after which they lose effectiveness and need replacement, even if they still appear to glow. We install the light correctly for your specific coil and air handler, and we can include lamp replacement in a maintenance visit so your UV-C keeps working rather than quietly aging out. Proper placement matters: a light aimed poorly does little, which is another reason to have it installed by someone who understands the equipment.
