Through July and August, outdoor dew points sit in the low-to-mid 70s for weeks at a stretch. That means a large fraction of the cooling load is latent — moisture that has to be condensed out of the air — not sensible heat.

Latent removal only happens while the evaporator coil is cold and air is moving across it.
